The Telltale Signs

I am joining Sharon at Fiberdoodles and Susan at Between Naps on the Porch today. You can click on Susan’s button on my sidebar or join Sharon here. Thank you ladies for allowing me to share my Halloween “metamorphosis” and holiday decorations! Please come on in! button2

My family knows that should they lose their calendars or suffer amnesia, there are always places in my house that will immediately clue them into to the season or next approaching holiday. The first is the front door.CIMG0477I just added this friendly ghost to our fall wreath to make it Halloween ready—no ghouls or monsters here, just smiling faces ready for trick or treaters! The next place to look for holiday clues is in my kitchen.

CIMG0466

I always try to have a fun centerpiece on the breakfast room table with holiday placemats for everyday meals. I caught this visiting granddog in the act of a nap this afternoon.CIMG0463

I may have to have a chat with his mother about where Cooper takes his naps at home—he’s an only child :) My small kitchen chest that I use as a sideboard is usually decorated according to the season also.CIMG0467I made this “Nevermore” arrangement with inspiration from The DIY Showoff with an urn I already owned, Dollar Tree crows, and spray painted Spanish moss. For many years all children who come into my house know that I always have a cookie jar with some kind of treat. This pumpkin is my Halloween cookie jar. CIMG0469

I have a couple of other fall/Halloween decorations that I have collected. This pumpkin plate on the stand is here for October and and November.

CIMG0480

I also love teapots and found this one this year. The plate is Arthur Court.

CIMG0481

And probably one of my favorite ways to decorate for the holidays is in the bathroom. I love guest towels and tea towels. I try not to put out anything too fussy if they are used (but I also provide an alternative :)

Hope you enjoyed the tour! Be sure to visit Susan and Sharon for lots of other participants!

  1. Susan,
This post turned out fantastic! I saw black crows similar to yours for $16.00 a piece, and considered buying them for ½ a second. Tomorrow you can be sure I will be heading to the dollar store. I love your front door wreath, really cute.

  5. Susan, that ghost on the wreath is so cute and festive. What a great job you did of creating the nevermore tree! Your granddog is so cute (but you could have at least tied a fall ribbon around his neck if you were going to use him for a centerpiece!). Your tea pot is gorgeous. laurie

  8. Everything looks great! I agree with Laurie - tie something around his neck if he is going to decorate the table ! :) Yep - The kiddos that come around here know that there is usually a treat in a jar or in the pantry.

I also like the blackbirds--I haven't been able to find any...I am going to check one more place possibly today, but I think they have been sold out. I also love your idea about the pumpkin dish stand and the handtowels and holiday placemats---all nice ideas.

  25. HAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm glad I followed you from Susan's Blog Party. My fave decoration of all was the dog on the table! Oh wait...that's a REAL dog. I am NOT letting my dog see this and get any bright ideas! What a fun, festive post with lots of great pics! Enjoyed it very much!

  26. Your halloween decor is soooo cute. LOVE the teapot, pumkin plate, and the pewter plate. The puppy on the table was a smile for sure...our fat orange cat constantly lays on the breakfast nook table...tried everything to make him stop...finally, I keep a towel up there for him to lay on!

  30. Love you Halloween decor. I see some candy corn in candle holders. I have that going on on my dining room table as well. Love your idea of just adding a little touch of Halloween to your fall wreaths. I'll have to try that.

BTW, thanks for you comment on my post. You have inspired me to edit it to include "Bless her heart" somewhere. That's priceless and perfect.

  35. Oh Marty, how did I miss this? Such beautiful fall and Halloween things... I am IN LOVE with tha pumpkin teapot, and that pumpkin plate -- it takes my breath away!

I had to laugh at the doggy napping on the table; our Dion's Grandma used to get up on the breeder's kitchen table to nap on the folded NYTimes, or sit and watch the passing people parade. She was the only dog allowed such a privilege, a grande dame indeed.

    I LOVED your tour! Thanks!

  36. Great table ... I thought Cooper was just a part of the tablescape. He matched perfectly! Thanks for stopping by to visit with me. .. love your silver bullet post, too. Didn't we all shoot up a prayer for that little boy ... and seems like we need to keep praying for that family.

  39. Great fall decor.

You made me laugh when you said "grand dog". I thought my mom invented that. She calls my little pug her grand dog.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment, if you hadn't, I might not have found you.
