What a Pot of Gold Will Buy

Here in the South we have a New Year’s Day tradition: eat black eyed peas for luck; eat greens for money. Well I did my part! And, with luck, if my

greens-m

turn into

Then I might just be able to buy this

This house recently came on the market in my area (and yes, the car is always parked out front). I had missed a garden club tour there and always regretted it. So, I hopped over to the realtor’s website. 21934d14906002fc162573a6ad5866f94583183731

According to the realtor’s website the house is over 10,000 square feet of “true English mansion” that delivers a “hit to the senses”. The “great hall” was inspired by European cathedrals and has a hand carved beam system and staircase. On a personal note, I wonder if the antlers are real. I haven’t allowed animal parts on my walls since I concluded in the first year of marriage that “for better or worse” did not include taxidermy. There six fireplaces in the house.

No self-respecting castle would have a butler’s pantry that wasn’t filled with pewter .

219e3f0b69f9de70d42620774181e12b8053183731

The kitchen is a dream….look at that tile, all that counter space, and the copper sink! I love the windows…still got the cathedral theme going on.

219f94079e8aa702f09cc71aa4b844f1e9b3183731

I suppose this is the master bedroom. The house has four bedrooms, In a house this size, I’d expect more…but then I wouldn’t expect the movie room, weight room or English pub that it has.

21906f2a1fbad5db33f44285d9bb7e471b03183731

This is where the information gets a little murky. The house lists 4.4 baths and 4 partial baths. I assume this is the master bath…see the dressing room down the hall? I know what a half bath is…even a 3/4 bath….what is a 4/10 bath ?? :) Look at that cabinetry. I think that is inlaid tile in the center.

The back is as majestic as the front.

I’d settle for just this gorgeous statue and waterfall, but if you find a pot of gold and need an English castle….call me…I know where to find one!

  1. Wow - amazing! I know that no matter how far property values may have slipped in your area there's no pot of gold in my piggy bank big enough to even get past the front door (or moat) of this listing! I suppose they're "downsizing"?

  2. OMG, what a gorgeous house! I want to live in it. The bed in the master bedroom looks like ours so maybe it's an omen, lol. Thanks for sharing this, Susan. I really enjoyed the tour. How much are they selling it for?...Chistine

  6. Okee Dokee!! Let me check my "Petty Cash" to see if I have enough to buy it this week and please have them remove the antlers before I move in. :-)
Been to the store for milk and bread yet? :-)

  7. I agree with you on wanting something tangible to put under the stairs so.....I ordered a hard cover copy of my album. I have to wait 2 weeks to see it :(

Love the house but 10,000 square feet just sound too overwhelming to have to clean every week. I'll stick with 3000 square feet. It's plenty big!

  14. We recently added an addition and I don't know if living in a large home is for me or not. We all seem so far from each other now, everyone off doing their own thing and the house is so quiet. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

  15. Holy cow! What a house!

Laughed out loud when I read that you "haven’t allowed animal parts on my walls since I concluded in the first year of marriage that for better or worse did not include taxidermy." Too funny. I have to agree with you on that one! Ha.

  16. Now that is an amazing house...not your "warm, comfy and welcome" look, tho.
I'm with you on the hanging of heads or horns on MY walls! Hubs and I had a few words about that at the beginning of this almost 50 year marriage...:O)...He DOES have some in HIS work shop, tho...so we are both happy..

  17. Hi Susan,
Thanks so much for stopping by! I love taking sneak peaks into other houses. This one is pretty amazing!
We have a restaurant here in Houston that got all its taxidermy from ...you guessed it...the wives!
    Blessings for a wonderful 2010,

  18. What a gorgeous home! And I love the copper sink in the kitchen- and not just that it's a copper sink, but that it's the second (at least) sink. My dream is to have multiple sinks in a kitchen.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I am excited to look at yours!!

PS- I had my BEPeas and green too... need to make cornbread still though. It counts if it's in the first week of the year, yes?

  19. My favorite part of that gorgeous house is the industrial style stove! A house that large would never seem like a home to me but I don't really need to worry about it. I could never afford anything like that. Thanks for the tour though. It's nice to see such a grand once in a while. Thanks for stopping by my blog and the advice concerning the practice blog. I might try that if I can figure out how it works.
Have a great week and come back again!

  20. Hi Susan. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your comment! I see we both enjoy many of the same blogs too!!
I too eat black eyed peas on New Year's. My family is from Texas. Even though I never lived there, I have been raised with a lot of my Grandmother's Southern ways.
Come on back sometime, and I will be back to visit your blog as well.

  24. I think the kitchen and the car are my favorites. Of course there must be an English chauffeur to drive you around to parties and appointments.

  27. Oh, this year we did not do our Southern Good Luck with the black eyed peas and greens! So there goes my pot of Gold. But I am content with my 100 year old Craftsman's Bungalow. lol The home is beautiful! I would need several maids. lol Hubby can barley keep up with this one as I recover. lol

  29. Oh My Goodness! That is incredible. I could live in that kitchen! I have been trying to figure out the 4/10 of a bathroom. Never heard of that. I had my black eyed peas, etc. for NY. I'll invite you over if I end up with enough gold to buy that! laurie
