How to Have the Perfect Valentine’s Date

VALENTINEPARTY181box

Laurie over at Bargain Hunting and Chatting with Laurie is throwing a party and we’re all invited! I think she has been hiding Johnny Depp in “the closet”, so there is no telling what we will find. For many years Beloved and I have struggled to find the perfect Valentine’s gift for each other.

Early in our marriage he sent red roses. I accused him of having no imagination.

He brought home boxes of chocolate. I threw away the ones I didn’t like.

I made dinner reservations. He said, “There are too many people and the service stinks”. What’s a girl to do? Plan your own Valentine’s date, of course!

Beloved found these tickets in his Christmas stocking---The Jersey Boys!! He is finally reaping the benefits of my little part time job! Broadway is something we both enjoy!

This is the story of “how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history”—the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The reviews are great and I can hardly wait for the music! We’ll be seeing it in the beautiful Orpheum Theater in Memphis.

Admittedly, the Orpheum near famous Beale Street, is not much to look at from the outside. The inside, however, is a different story. Originally the Grand Opera House, the building was destroyed by fire in 1923 (during a strip tease). Musta been some strip tease :) At the time it was called the “classiest outside New York City”. After being rebuilt, it spent several years showing first run movies. However, in 1982 the theater was given a 5 million dollar face lift. The inside is beyond elegant and even has its own ghost in box 5. Beloved was thrilled and even added to the fun.

He has made reservations for brunch at the Peabody Hotel. This is a picture of the lobby with the world famous Peabody ducks who march in daily. They descend in an elevator and walk through the lobby on a red carpet to the fountain where they swim for the rest of the day. It is a huge tourist attraction and these ducks have it made!

  1. Oh Susan, everyone who has been to see Jersey Boys says it is just the best! We had tickets the night they cancelled because of the snow, and we couldn't get rescheduled. Had to give the tickets away. And the Peabody too! You are going to have so much fun! Thank you so much for linking this to the party. It IS the perfect date! laurie

  2. What an absolutely wonderful Valentine's Day treat. We saw "Jersey Boys" when we were in London, and it was wonderful.

The best part of the deal was that we got tickets on Row L, dead center for 25 pounds each because we bought them at the box office less than an hour before the curtain went up. The theatre had that great deal for "seniors" going.

Those Brits had the Jersey accent down perfectly, and the music was wonderful. BTW, I'm loving listening to your music.

  4. Now, that sounds like the perfect date, Susan! I love Memphis, but I haven't been in years. My favorite place to eat there was called The Rendevous. Is it still there? It must have been twenty-something years since I went there to eat, but boy, was it good!

Sounds like you and your hubby have come up with an excellent Valentine's weekend. Have lots of fun and tell us all about "Jersey Boys" and staying at the Peabody. I haven't stayed there, but I did see the ducks which were so much fun! LOL! Those flowers are out of this world, Susan. Love that arrangment!

    Happy Valentine's Day...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  18. It looks like you have planned an unforgettable Valentine's Day! I am hoping to take my dad to that show in NYC, he'll love it....if it is there this Spring? I was scrolling through your posts and everything is so pretty, I adore the Strawberries arranged in flowers. I like adding fruit to my arrangements and you are right it really does cut down on the cost, I put leftover red and pink ribbon candy in my Valentine's arrangement, it looked pretty and much more affordable!
Thanks so much for stopping over at my blog

That theater is gorgeous. What a face-lift. Your Valentine's date sounds fabulous.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's very nice to meet you and I'm going to have a great time looking around and reading your posts as soon as I finish this comment.

(I am partial to roses :o)...I am one that enjoys them fresh for afew days, but then has to turn them over and dry them out so that I can enjoy them forever ;o) I have my hubby's bouquets and the single roses dried and displayed that he has brought home for special occasions and for "just because"... )
