Come for a Spring Breakfast

CIMG1400

Spring is playing hide and seek around here. Like an elusive child, it pops up momentarily only to hide again. But the one sure harbinger of spring is the daffodil.

CIMG1388

While we’re waiting for the real deal, I’ve set the table for a casual spring breakfast. At least the bright colors will transport our minds to where our bodies long to be!

CIMG1394

I covered the table with a matelasse coverlet right out of the linen closet—no pulling it off and heading back to bed! I love the white as a canvas for the bright yellow and green.

CIMG1389

The centerpiece was a snap. Silk daffodils in small pitchers will have to do until the real thing arrives. Eggs piled on a small cake plate with delicate open cutwork continue the simple white breakfast theme.

CIMG1391

I found these happy spring placemats this year to use with the standby white Gibson china. A single daffodil tucked into each napkin will make each guest feel special.

CIMG1396

Now we don’t really need place cards for breakfast, but they are fun! I dyed hardboiled eggs and wrote names on them. You can eat them after you find your seat :). Flatware is from Big Lots!

CIMG1395

We’ll be serving family style, so you’ll have to grab your own plate to go pick up your eggs and pancakes. Now you can get the full effect of the yellow placemat! Don’t worry if you’re not a morning person. This table setting will work perfectly for a casual lunch without the eggs!

I’ll be joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday and Michelle at Maddycakes Muse for her Easter Tablescapes and spring parties contest. You can click on The Tablescape Thursday button on the sidebar to visit Susan. Click here to visit Maddycakes Muse. Your are sure to leave both places inspired!

  1. Daffodil's my favorite flower in the world. Love your cheery tablescape. I bought some potted daffodil's yesterday, they are on my patio in hopes that they won't open up too fast. Blessings, Marla

  9. What a pretty table setting!! I am sure you have figured out by now, I am not a Winter person, and when I saw your post, it put a big smile on my face! I love daffodils - wished they would last longer. I need to finish de-cluttering around here and do a little decorating for Spring. Not a breakfast person, but what time is lunch? :-D
Hope you are having a great week!

  41. Oh my! Be still my heart. I absolutely LOVE daffodils...or jonquils as my grandmother used to call them. They were her favorite flower and I think she passed the addiction down to me. I felt happy just looking at your table!

  43. Daffodils- my favorite flower! I have a March birthday, my Dad used to bring me a bouquet every year. Happy memories. I love your sunny table!

  44. What a breath of fresh air! I love the beautiful coverlet used as a tablecloth. How did you get those eggs to stay put on the pedestal? I'd have had to get out the hot glue gun before my first attempt! Speaking of eggs, the dyed ones as placecards are a great idea! Everything looks perfect ... nicely done!

When I was a child, we called the daffodils buttercups. When my mother was living, my dad would always bring her the first one to bloom. It was a little ritual they had. If he happened to be rushing around and failed to notice the happy little yellow blossoms for a day or two, she'd still wait quietly for him to bring her the "first" of the season.
